Poland, Maine is a small community in western Maine that was incorporated in 1795. It has been historically celebrated as a resort community. This was particularly true during the period before automobiles became commonplace, when many Boston area residents sought summertime relief from the heat and clamor of city living. Poland’s most famous resort was the luxurious, 350 room Poland Spring House. The hotel property is the site of the natural spring that gave name to the famed Poland Spring Water.
