NEW - POLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY PHOTO MAP

Google Maps - PHS Photo Map

The attached link will take you to a custom Google map document showing photos from the Poland Historical Society archives. The map contains 90 individual points – each of which has at least one associated picture. You can fly around on the map by dragging your cursor; and zoom in and out using the scroll wheel on your mouse. Click the symbol on the map for any photo that you want to check out. The picture and any related information will show up in a pane on the left side of the screen. You can click on the thumbnail view of the photo to view the full-size image in a separate window. Likewise, you can review the list of Point Names in the left-hand pane, and click on one to fly to the location and see the picture. If you are familiar with Google Street View, you can open a second map and see a current photo of the area. Whenever I placed a photo of a structure that is still standing, I noted it in the caption. If the caption doesn’t specify it – or if there’s no caption at all – the building no longer exists. Unfortunately, I had very little time to log background information about any of the photos. However, many of the pictures can be found on the Facebook page titled “Poland Maine – Days Gone By”. That site usually contains extensive information on each picture.
