Rep Jessica Fay - Update from Augusta

February 2019

Dear Friend,

It’s the second month of session here in Augusta, and the 129th Legislature has begun policy committee work in earnest. With more than 2000 bills submitted, there are public hearings almost every day on all different kinds of issues. If you have an interest in following this work more closely, www.legislature.maine.gov is a wonderful resource. I encourage you to explore the website. It is a tool I use every day.

While we will be addressing concerns and ideas across hundreds of topics, my colleagues and I are working on issues that you identified as priority areas for the Legislature. We will be looking to make sure that children of all ages have access to an exceptional education, we will push to lower property taxes and we will remain committed to increasing access to affordable health care.

As a member of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee, I am glad to be able to work on issues that impact our environment including climate change, clean water and keeping toxic chemicals out of the environment. In the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee, we are addressing invasive aquatic species, fairness in hunting permits and some important boating safety issues.

There is a lot of work to be done in the coming months, and I will continue to listen to you and work with my colleagues as we move Maine forward. Please contact me with any questions, concerns or ideas. I can be reached by email at jessica.fay@legislature.maine.gov.

Sincerely,

Jess Fay

Each year, tens of millions of dollars go unclaimed in Maine. These financial assets are turned over by national and local businesses and organizations that lose contact with the rightful owners of the funds. The State Treasurer holds these assets until claimed by the owner or heir.  his year alone, nearly $25 million in unclaimed property was added to the Treasurer’s database. Find out if any of these funds belong to you, your business, your friends or your family by visiting: www.maineunclaimedproperty.gov

Honorary Page Program

When the House is convened, the Honorary Page program gives students an opportunity to participate in the process and to interact with Legislators. Students from elementary through high school are invited to serve in the House Chamber as Honorary Pages when the House is in Session.  nder the supervision of the Sergeant-At-Arms and Chamber Staff, Honorary Pages have the opportunity to see what it’s like to work on the floor of the House and be part of a Legislative Session. Pages perform such duties as delivering messages to Legislators and distributing Amendments and Supplements in the Chamber. For more information visit: http://legislature.maine.gov/house/house/HouseActivities/HonoraryPagePro...
