Poland 6th graders observe Arbor Day with tree ID walk

Sixteen sixth graders from Poland Community School, accompanied by teacher Ell Fanous, observed Arbor Day with a tree identification walk on April 29 in the Heart of Poland Conservation Area.

The group was led by Town Forester Fred Huntress and Poland Conservation Commission naturalist Alan Audet, according to a news release from Barry Morgan, co-chair of the commission.

A dozen trees which had been identified and tagged were located and discussed with the students using the book “Forest Trees Of Maine,” of which each student received a copy.

Brochures for the Heart Of Poland Area, which detail all of the hiking trails, were also given to the students.
