It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Androscoggin Deputy Sheriff - Dennis Philip Sampson. He died on Saturday May 5, at Central Maine Medical Center after a very sudden illness. He was born in Lewiston on October 5, 1966, the youngest son of Richard R. Sampson and Georgette Gobeil Sampson, Dennis grew up in Auburn. He earned his Eagle Scout in 1983 and lived the principles he learned in the scouts his whole life. He graduated from ELHS in 1985 and went into the Army Reserves soon after graduating. He served as a reserve police office for the city of Auburn as well as a full time officer with the Paris Police Dept. upon graduating from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in 1991. Dennis has been serving in the Androscoggin Sheriff’s Department since 2005.

On October 25, 1991, Dennis married Celeste Perrier. Together they built their home in Poland, living there since 1995. They welcomed their son, Jeremy into their family in 1998.

Dennis loved spending time with his family. He also loved the outdoors, often working with his Kabota cleaning and cutting trees to expand his outdoor living space. He was well known for his kindness and compassion, sense of humor and quick wit. He was a committed community member who enjoyed serving others.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife Celeste, their son Jeremy, his mother, Georgette Sampson, his siblings, Rick (Kathy), Ray (Sonya), Rob and partner Mariane, and sister Ann, mother-in law Joan Boutin Perrier and brothers-in-law, Steve, John and wife Roxanne, and his 9 nieces and nephews. Dennis comes from a large family and has many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Richard R. Sampson, an infant brother Daniel Joseph, his father-in-law Henry Perrier and sister-in-law Danielle Perrier. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation Fortin Auburn Friday May 11 from 1-4 PM & 6-9 PM. Funeral will be held on Saturday May, 12 at 10 AM at The Androscoggin Bank Colisee 190 Birch St. Lewiston Maine. Donations may be made in Dennis’ name to the Poland Fire & Rescue, PO Box 163, Poland, ME 04274.
