UNDERSTANDING THE RSU 16 BUDGET PROPOSAL

The RSU 16 Budget is funded from property taxes of all three towns.  Poland taxpayers typically pay about 65% of the RSU 16 Budget.  This year the Poland portion of the RSU 16 Proposed Budget is $7,542,806 which is an increase of $490,069 for Poland taxpayers, or a 7% increase over last years budgeted amount.

The RSU 16 Board held a public meeting on Monday, June 8th to discuss the proposed budget. Several discussions ensued at the meeting about possible reductions that could be made but ultimately the RSU 16 Board moved forward with their proposed number that they adopted in March.

How does approving this proposed budget affect the Poland taxpayer?  The mil rate, at which we figure taxes, would go from 14.80, this reflects a 0.18 decrease over last year for the municipal/county side, to 15.11 with the proposed school budget.  In dollars?  Well it depends on the value of your property, if your property is valued at $150,000 then your taxes would increase by $47 this year for the school budget increase.  If you have a $300,000 valuation your taxes would increase $97.

We highly encourage all registered voters of Poland to vote on the proposed RSU 16 budget.
