ROUTE 26 CONSTRUCTION PROJECT NEWS
Route 26 Update: Grondin Construction should be finishing their Maine Dept. of Transportation work at the Rte. 122 and Rte. 26 intersection by November. This should shorten the delays that commuters on Rte. 26 have been experiencing.
The rest of the Rte 26 widening and upgrade in being done by K & K Construction. Beginning August 10th there will be a 3 – 4 week span of time when there will be split traffic at the Range Pond causeway bridge while they affect lane widening. The temporary lanes will only be 12’ wide and people should be very slow and safe while crossing the causeway during this period. Around Labor Day, this phase of the project should be complete with a single, wider bridge (with wider paved shoulders for safety) to be used throughout the balance of fall and through to the following construction season. CMP is still setting poles, then they will move their wires over, then cable will move their wires, and finally phone lines. This utility work should continue through winter into early 2010. During the
construction season of 2010, the rest of the roadwork (up through to Brown Rd.) will continue.

Route 26 Construction: Motorists utilizing Route 26 in Poland know that currently there are several construction projects taking place along this important travel corridor.
At the intersection of Route 122 and Route 26, crews are realigning the roads in order to make this intersection safer. Crews are also rebuilding that section of Route 26 by improving the sub-base of the road, improving drainage, and widening the road as well. R.J. Grondin and Sons of Gorham is the contractor for this $2.4 million project. This project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Crews are also rebuilding a section of Route 26 from the Route 122/26 intersection north to the Brown Road. This major project also includes improving the sub-base of the road, improving sightlines, improving drainage and widening the road by adding pave shoulders. K&K Excavation of Turner is the contractor for this $7.8 million project. The projected completion date of this project is the summer of 2011.
The bridge at Middle Range Pond is also being replaced as part of this project. Bridge construction should be completed by later this fall.
MaineDOT urges motorists to drive cautiously while traveling through the work area, and appreciates the patience of the traveling public during these brief delays.
