Interview with Coach Bob Morin
Forty-three year old Bob Morin has been a detective at the Lewiston police department for the past twenty years. He and his wife Diane moved to Poland eight years ago with their elder son Nathan. Around the same time, he began coaching youth soccer as a volunteer. The best part of volunteering, he says, is just being with the kids and watching them succeed. Coaching can be challenging at times, especially in groups of up to thirteen kids all with different skill levels. It can be difficult to keep them all interested. Most of Morin’s sports knowledge is book knowledge or knowledge gained from watching other coaches. For football, he dedicatedly read all of the books by Californian author John T. Reed about coaching youth football. “We won every game that season,” he said proudly. Morin’s most recent
coaching endeavor was an introduction to soccer for three and four year olds. It was kinda cute,” he chuckled. In addition to soccer and football, Morin has also coached basketball, baseball, and lacrosse (For those who are wondering, lacrosse is a combination of field hockey and soccer). He is currently taking a break from coaching. “My wife likes having me home.”
