Meeting with RSU Administration & Town Representatives

Last evening, several representatives from the RSU 16 committee, administration, and municipalities met at the High School library to discuss ways to encourage better understanding and cooperation among the entities participating in the RSU.  Those present discussed the RSU’s upcoming strategic planning process, cost-sharing opportunities, better communication about the budget process, and a meeting in September with a state representative to talk about the education funding formula.  The meeting was very productive and a positive start down a road to enhanced cooperation and understanding about the communities’ educational and other public service needs.

New England Managers’ Institute

At last week’s N.E. Managers’ Institute at Sunday River, managers from across Maine and other New England states joined for professional development, the MTCMA annual meeting, peer recognition and appreciation, and networking.  We participated in classes concerning memory enhancement, leadership, ethics, facilitation, coaching, and changes in health insurance for municipal employees.  The exercises were valuable and refreshed our capacity to understand and deal with the challenges that face us in public service.  I truly appreciate the chance to interact and learn with fellow managers, and I thank the citizens of Poland for allowing me the opportunity to enhance my competence through this type of interchange.

A Significant Milestone for the Town Manager

I am extremely honored and happy to report that as of the first of September, 2012, I will have worked in public service for 35 years.  Humbly (and ignorantly) beginning as clerk-treasurer of my hometown of the Village of Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, and progressing all the way here to be Poland’s town manager, I have been distinctly honored to serve many fine citizens in the public sector all those years.  My thanks are extended to all for allowing me the opportunity to proudly serve the wonderful community of Poland, Maine.

Code Enforcement Officer, Nick Adams & Customer Service Clerk, Amie Juergens

I am pleased to announce that both Nick Adams and Amie Juergens have successfully completed their six-month probationary periods as permanent employees with the Town of Poland.  Both Amie and Nick are excellent additions to our town staff, and we are fortunate to have their contributions and talents added to the significant work already contributed by other town employees.  Please join me in congratulating and thanking them for their accomplishments and wishing them many more productive years with the Town of Poland.
